Sunday Caps a Tremendous Weekend!

This years edition of Mountain Jam, so far the best and biggest yet was a great success. My heart & mind is filled with so many great memories that will last a life time.

Sundays closing day was just the perfect lineup to close the day. No one let the rain bring them down as the final four knock out punches were thrown by Robert Randolph & The Family Band > North Mississippi Allstars > Michael Franti & Spearhead > Phil Lesh And Friends! How about that for a segue.
Sunday... people are usually slow to get back in the groove. Gov't Mules wonderful set with the many guest sit ins and Tea Leaf Green ripping the roof off of the Ski Lodge Saturday night till the early morning hours made for a long, fun filled day of music.

Sunday’s opening bands played really nice sets... check these bands out. You will not be disappointed with Backyard Tire Fire. The Brakes and Bret Puchir & Chicken Bucket.

Even if you wanted to run for cover form the rain... your dancin shoes couldn’t let you miss Robert Randolph. He and his Family Band played a blistering set to a wet but enthusiastic crowd.

The NMAS up next just kept the rock and roll goin strong with a smoking
set stage right.

The crowd started to swell for Michael Franti and Spearhead. I think the webcast camera men had their work cut out for them during Franti’ s set and Michael had the mountain side audience in the palms of his hands and led them through his trademark songs of hope and strength.. No matter what your political views are, there is no way to not start jumpin when he shouts "I wanna see everybody jumpin!"

Warren came out and played with Spearhead on the beautiful "Nobody Right, Nobody Wrong". It was such a great moment.

The band then later covered Sublime's "What I Got" with the "Theme from Sesame Street" sandwiched in. That was just one of the many crowd participation numbers in a great set. The “Yell Fire” & "Everybody On A Move" put smiles on the faces of the faithful

Now with a chance for a much needed breather there was a short break to get a bite to eat. The anticipation of Phil and Friends filled the air.
Both sets were pure bliss. One of the very best Phil shows in quite some time, well since that last time Warren Haynes was officially part of the band, but I admit I'm a bit biased. The combination of John Scofield and Warren was amazing as they weaved in and out of each other all night like they have been playing together for years. Phil was spectacular on the bass, dropping bombs all night and leading the band through that impressive setlist I posted. By the way that set list came from one of Phil's amps immediately after the "Not Fade Away" encore. Even with the rain, this Sunday portion of Mountain Jam 2007 as expected brought out the largest crowd of the weekend. Lots of folks drove in just for Sunday. They would not be disappointed.

I have so much more to recount and to share... bookmark this blog and keep checking in. I have lots of great pictures, reviews and stories to pass along!
