Rockin' The Earth!

Rock the Earth will be rockin' Mountain Jam
for the 4th consecutive year!

Currently on their Education & Outreach Tour, RtE is spreading their message across the country at various concerts and festivals educating and activating kind folks. Trying to encourage people to join their growing movement of environmentally concerned music fans.

I had the chance to speak to RtE President & Executive Director, Marc Ross from last weekends Summer Camp.

"Our goal at being at Mountain Jam is to get people inspired, activated and interested in some of the issues we are working on, as well as the organization itself.'

Jon Fishman, RtE's Marc Ross
& David Shulman, Executive Director of the Mimi Fishman Foundation

Marc outlined the three major issues RTE will be promoting at Mountain Jam:

"Our headlining issue is our lawsuit against the National Parks Service for their mis-management of what is the crown jewel of the National Park system, the Grand Canyon National Park & the Colorado River." For more about this case Read: Target: Defending the Colorado River

"We are also taking on the cruise industry. As you know there has been a growing nexus between the music industry and the cruise industry. These music cruises have gotten more popular in all genres on music. But a lot of people that are environmentally mindful, like the artists and the fans have no idea of the horrible impact that these cruise lines have on the ocean, aquatic life as well as terrestrial life through air emissions and global warming." For more about the cost effective and simple measures the cruise lines could be taking: Read: Target: Cruise Ships

"The 3rd and final issue I'll mention right now is a new issue. There is a growing boon to create new nuclear reactors and expand uranium operations. Their argument being that nuclear is going to get us out of Global Warming. A large segment of society directly impacted by this are Native American Reservations. Both with the disposal aspects after the spent uranium is used in a nuclear facility, and on the front end as well in terms of mining uranium." for more about this issue: Read: Target: Protecting the Rights of Indigenous People

"Those are the 3 main issues we are focusing on right now." Marc added, "This is our 4th Mountain Jam and our 4th summer tour with Gov't Mule & the Allman Brothers who we love working with."

Rock the Earth won the Mimi Fishman Award at the Jammy's this year. Past winners have been Headcount and the Rex Foundation who will also be in attendance at Mountain Jam.

"The best part about Mountain Jam Rich is the line-up, and getting in to Upstate New York. It's a beautiful place for a festival. The people that it attracts from the Northeast bring a really kind vibe. There is just such a wonderful vibe at Mountain Jam!" -Marc Ross

Be sure to stop by the Rock The Earth Booth and sign up for membership and the monthly news letter which highlights the projects and the different artists RTE is working with!

~Thanks to Marc Ross & RtE! ~
