The listeners of WDST and a lucky few in the on-site studio received a rare treat on the final day of Mtn Jam. The legionary Richie Havens and Michael Franti teamed up for an impromptu jam session before they each took to the Mtn Jam Stage later in the day.
It was the first time the two had met "It is truly an honor to meet you Richie" said Michael Franti before being interviewed on air. There was a lot of mutual respect being shown between the two artists. Luckily I was there to catch the moment in pictures. There is also a video of the song played.

Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule Noodle in Nature at Mountain Jam
6/1/09, 1:03 pm EST

As the sun dipped below Hunter Mountain on Sunday evening at the Mountain Jam festival, the Allman Brothers Band ripped into a rowdy version of “Statesboro Blues,” that familiar guitar riff echoing through the peaks and valleys of the Catskills. After an hour of slower jams, it was the crowd pleaser fans needed as the cool mountain air picked up force, tussling the dread-headed masses and sending chills down their dirt-smeared bodies. Guitarist Derek Trucks, who rocked with the Allmans throughout the set, took the intro while Gregg Allman handled lead vocals and produced a particularly nasty keyboard solo midway through the cut.

Hey George!
Allison Murphy caught this wonderful photo on Friday night during the second set of Gov't Mule. Looks like Matt Abts sure likes having George Porter Jr. back laying down a groove. They broke out a Hey Porter Jam -> Third Stone From The Sun Jam. Porter, along with Batiste & Stoltz played a smokin' hot set earlier in the day!

~ TEA LEAF GREEN ~
TLG played a really tight, energetic set Friday afternoon. They burst into their set just seconds after Railroad Earth left the stage right next door. The large crowd was ready to rock out despite the rain which didn't last long. The dancin' & hoopin' was in full effect.
Josh & Trevor made a guest appearance during Gov't Mule's encore later in the evening. A blistering Cortez The Killer was a nice way to bring opening day at Mountain Jam in a close.
Lost & Found
Well there may be a chance it was turned in.

F R A N T I !
For a third consecutive year Michael Franti whipped the mountain into a wild frenzy. It wasn't long before people were waving their shirts high in the air. It's an amazing sight to witness thousands jumping in unison as one, the energy at the heart of it... awe-inspiring.
Richie Havens

Derek Trucks Band
It was Derek's turn to pull double duty today. The DTB took the stage early in the day and boogied through a tight set. I love the new tunes and the band seemed to be having fun up their looking out at the mountain side. Is their any better slide man alive today?
BK3
BK3 was actually BK4. Tara Nevins was with the band on vocals, acoustic guitar & washboard.
